​Paul Besaw is a Vermont-based dance artist with a primary interest in the development of original dance/theatre works. With collaboration as a vital goal, he often works in a setting that includes dance artists, composers, designers, theatre-makers, and visual artists. He is a founding member of Agnes Table and has worked as a core contributing artist since its inception, including serving as Creator/Choreographer for 1905 and Creator/Director for The Destination. Paul also helped found the more recently formed Dance Tramp, a collective of experimental choreographers in northern Vermont. The group operates as a nucleus for diverse projects, with rotating creative leadership, seeking to make interdisciplinary and interactive performance. Paul led Dance Tramp in the creation/performance of his full-length work self-ADDRESSED and will mount a new project entitled the one-stop Dance Tramp family band tour in December 2012. He is also the founder and co-artistic coordinator of The Solo Workshop, a multidisciplinary group of artists exploring the solo mode and premiering new evenings of performance. In addition to his own work, Paul has performed in works by Sally Bomer, Clare Byrne, Hannah Dennison, John Gamble, Kayvon Pourazar, Tiffany Rhynard, and Jan Van Dyke, among others. He holds a BA in theatre from Keene State College, and an MFA in dance from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Currently, Paul serves as associate professor in the Department of Music and Dance at The University of Vermont, where he coordinates the dance program.
